After long 2 years of waiting, the Doraemon exhibition is making a comeback at the National Museum of Singapore. And this time, it is bigger and better! THE Doraemon Exhibition Singapore 2022 (THE ドラえもん展 シンガポール 2022) is a combination of two exhibitions into one where both contemporary art by 28 contemporary artists and art groups, and the Original MANGA Doraemon drawings by Mr Fujimoto, better known as Fujiko F Fujio, will be displayed. What is making this exhibition special is that this is the first time THE Doraemon Exhibition is first displayed outside of Japan and the Original MANGA Doraemon drawings too, are making a public display for the first time outside of Fujiko F Fujio Museum in Kawasaki City, Japan.

Manga Doraemon Original Drawings Exhibition, Singapore
Located just at the entrance of NMS is the MANGA DORAEMON Original Drawings Exhibition. Enter the doors and you will be awed by over 70 original Doraemon drawings and sketches by the late creator of Doraemon, Mr Fujimoto, on loan from the Fujiko F Fujio Museum in Kawasaki City, Japan.
Be sure not to miss the photo opportunity with the desk which was replicated after Mr Fujimoto’s original desk which he spent many hours drawing the cat-type robot from the future.

Do note that exhibition is separated into 2 Acts
Act 1 features 27 artworks from 18 Japanese artists and art groups with the theme “Create Your Own Original Doraemon’. The artists were given the freedom to interpret and represent the unlimited possibilities of the robot cat from the future.
Act 2 features 13 artworks from 10 contemporary Japanese artists who created their own version of Doraemon with reference to their favourite Doraemon movies.
Apart from the two main Acts from THE Doraemon Exhibition, in the Singapore edition, there is an Act Singapore which features the artworks from two of our very own Singaporean artists, Jahan Loh and Leslie Kee, who were also specially commissioned to create their own version of Doraemon.

A special addition to this year’s exhibition would be the Doraemon cafe. The one and only highlight at the cafe will be the Dorayaki, made by famous Japanese Confectionery, Toraya (とらや). Be sure not to miss trying Doraemon’s favourite food – Dorayaki / “Yummy Buns”. Made live at the exhibition, the sweet red bean paste in-between the soft fluffy pancakes is perfection.

THE Author’s review
I am grateful to National Museum of Singapore for collaborating with the organizers of The Doraemon Exhibition to make this possible. Personally, my favorite exhibit was being able to catch the very rare original hand drawn arts.
Ps: Singapore is the first country outside Japan to be holding the Doraemon exhibition thus its too good to be missed!
