Doraemon The Movie: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021 is a remake of the 1985 movie, Doraemon The Movie: Nobita’s Little Star Wars. It is the 41st Doraemon movie. The 2021 movie is also the third consecutive movie affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which caused it to be delayed by a year. The movie which was supposed to be released in Japan in March 2021 was postponed by a year weeks ahead of its original release date and eventually shown in Japan earlier this year, but still keeping 2021 in its name.

About The Movie

The movie is about Nobita picking up a small rocket one day. In the rocket, is a small-sized humanoid alien named Papi, which came from a planet called Pirika. Papi was trying to escape from its evil PCIA army and ended up landing on Earth. Doraemon and his friends were confused by Papi’s small size at the start, but with his secret gadget “Small Light”, they managed to shrink themselves and played together.

However, the evil army chasing after Papi then came to Earth in a whale-shaped battleship and commenced attacks on them. Papi blamed himself for bringing everyone into the battle and tried to fight against the army. It was then when Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo and Gian decided to travel to Pirika and help Papi to fight against the army to protect the planet.

Shortest showing Doraemon movie in Singapore

The movie’s last screening was on 2 July 2022, making it the shortest showing Doraemon movie in Singapore. The movie was only on the screens for ten days. Despite the movie being released a year later, viewership of the movie at the cinemas was very bad, largely due to a bad release date which caused the Japanese movie to be competing with other strong titles that were release in the same period. Cathay Cineplexes did schedule the movie at peak times during the first weekend, however, the viewership for the movie was not encouraging, which brought the movie to an early take down on Singapore screens. Doraemon Fan Club, Singapore has also done its best by offering additional chances for ticket holders to participate in our 7th Anniversary Giveaway, however, the efforts made did not create the anticipated results.

The club feels that the movie distributors of future Doraemon movies in Singapore should learn from this movie’s short showing timeline lesson and better plan for future Doraemon movies’ release in Singapore such as releasing teasers and trailers earlier, planning better promotions and publications to gain awareness of the movie, as well as collaborations with brands in Singapore to promote the movie further. The club also appeals for movie distributors to bring in other dubbed languages for the movie such as the Taiwanese Mandarin dubbed version into Singapore as the locals get to watch the Taiwanese Mandarin dubbed version of Doraemon’s Television Manga series on local Television. The introduction of the Taiwanese Mandaring dubbed version of the movie in Singapore’s release will definitely attract crowds into the cinemas as it is a language understood by the local Chinese audience, which is currently the main audience of Doraemon movies in Singapore.
